36-Hour Chocolate Chip Cookies & Threadless Giveaway!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Cookies. Milk. Afternoon showers. Looking at the shoreline through the window. That was just the medicine needed the other day. Even if just for the enticing aroma of warm chocolate wafting through the house. I did not know the power of chocolate chip cookies until I moved to the US though. We don’t really do those back home. We have eclairs, macarons, financiers. These I knew as my pick up-feel better-never let me down treats. Until I met B.

Turns out I married a chocolate chip cookie monster. It does not matter which kind comes out of the oven, a tray usually disappears in its entirety as soon as the cookies are cool enough to handle. And before I am done with the batch I can pretty much start over. His favorites are hands down chocolate chip cookies and I think I have baked 100 different recipes so far. Always in search of the next best one.

I must say, after years of marriage and oodles of batches behind me that I get it. the French have their baguette and chocolate bar as a snack, here it’s cookies and milk….and I love that too. Unlike B. I am good after a couple of cookies but I had to find a gluten free recipe now and one that he would not even blink twice about trying. And liking.

Cookies & Milk

I really had not particularly trying to find one until the good folks at Threadless contacted me about a promo they were doing. I have a personal rule not to do product review here, mostly because I hate to commit to a deadline for one when work is already full of deadlines as it is. But it’s Threadless tees…I love them. I bought my first one four years ago and probably bought over a dozen for friends and family since then. They are awesome. Different, fun and they promote artists and individual talent.

Before I agreed I checked the selection they wanted to promote, trying to tie it in somehow with this blog and give you something back at the same time in the form of a new recipe. You can guess I fell in love with the Cookie Loves Milk design. And I had the perfect reason to search for that gluten free chocolate chip recipe my repertoire was missing.

I picked the most reliable gluten free source I know, my friend Shauna from Gluten Free Girl and The Chef. I know the extent with which her recipes are developed and the love she puts in making them for us around. If you doubt it, watch this video trailer for their upcoming cookbook. See what I mean? I picked her cookie recipe in the Blog Aid cookbook we both participated in to raise funds for the Haiti this past winter. Tons of your favorite bloggers contributed pictures and recipes! And dorky as I am, I baked in my brand new Cookie Loves Milk tee….

You know what I love about that tee-shirt? It brings a smile on everyone’s face. Even the cranky bank teller giggled. Five seconds of giggles in your day and you have already done a great deal for your inner self. Smiling. The good for the soul kind of workout. Something I am definitely happy to promote and stand behind. Not to mention that this tee is so comfortable to wear I almost went to bed with it..eheheh! The flip-flops that came along? Just what I needed for the beach…

But that’s not all… Threadless has nicely offered to giveaway a "Cookie Loves Milk" tee shirt to one lucky reader of this blog (they unfortunately ran out of flip-flops) and I am am adding a copy of the Blog Aid – Recipes For Haiti cookbook where the following recipe comes from. To enter:
– leave a comment on this post (why not tell me your favorite cookie?) between today Wednesday August 11th and Sunday August 15th, midnight eastern US time.
– one entry per person, duplicates will not be published
– no anonymous entry. Sign Zorro or Bambi if you must…

Threadless Tee

36-hour Chocolate Chip Cookies – originally adapted from David Leite from Leite’s Culinaria, now adapted from Shauna’s version.

Note: Read more about why 36 hours in the fridge makes them better here.

1 cup sorghum flour
1 cup corn starch (you can sub tapioca starch)
1 cup potato starch
1 cup millet flour
1 tablespoon xanthan gum
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
2 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 1/4 cups brown sugar
1 cup plus granulated sugar
2 large eggs, at room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups chocolate chips or chocolate chunks
Sea salt

In a large bowl, whisk together each of the flours and "starches" along with the xanthan gum, baking soda and baking powder.

In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat together the butter and the sugars on medium speed for a couple of minutes. then mix for 1 minute more. Don’t overmix. the eggs, 1 at a time, beating well in between each addition and scraping the sides and bottom of your mixer bowl if necessary. Add the vanilla extract and beat an extra 30 seconds.

Add the flour mixture into the batter, 1/2 cup at a time, mixing just until the dry ingredients are coming together. Add the chocolate and mix briefly to incorporate.
Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 36 hours.

When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350Β°F, position a rack in the middle of the oven and line baking sheets with parchment paper or a non-stick baking mat.
Scoop your preferred size of dough balls onto your baking sheet, 2 inches apart from each other. Sprinkle the tops with the sea salt.

Bake the cookies about 12-15 minutes, depending on the size of your cookies or until golden brown. Let cool the cookies 10 minutes on the baking sheets before transferring to cooling racks.

My favourite cookie of all time is a chocolate chip shortbread cookie that my Mum used to make back in the early '90s… she'd freeze batches of them and I'd just sneak them out of the freezer still icey. I LOVED them.

We don't make them anymore because I love them a little too much, and could happily eat 6-8 in one sitting.

You can't go wrong with chocolate chip, but I think my favorites are cookies I found on another blog that have dried apricots, almonds, white and semisweet chocolate chips in them. I was sure they would be too full of stuff, but instead they taste fantastic!

Anna August 11, 2010 um 4:31 pm

I have a friend who makes the best molasses cookies in the universe. I don't think I've ever actually seen them after they've cooled…we normally gobble them up as they come out of the oven, sticking our fingers into as many as we can to "mark" them as ours πŸ˜€

Alessandra August 11, 2010 um 4:32 pm

They look so so good!
I'm a cookie monster too (I love walnut cookies) and

I troll around Threadless all the time, and have loved that design for way too long to not own it. What is wrong with me? My favorite cookie is a jam thumbprint cookie – only my great grandma's recipe will do!

Toll House Chocolate Chip cookies – my favorite (and I don't even like chocolate).

MeghanB August 11, 2010 um 4:40 pm

I absolutely adore oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips and nuts! The texture and the flavor are the best!

Abbey August 11, 2010 um 4:41 pm

I love chocolate chip, but I especially love a slight variation on them for nostalgic reasons. My grandma always makes chocolate chip cookies with Smarties (chocolate candies, like M&Ms)at Christmas. They're a family favourite, and get wolfed down pretty quickly. I can't have gluten now, so both Smarties and tradiational chocolate chip cookies are out, but I'll have to try these out soon. πŸ™‚

Another favourite is chocolate chip and toffee bit cookies. Mmmm.

Mallory Elise August 11, 2010 um 4:43 pm

i don't have a favorite cookie anymore becuase GF just aren't the same for me, at least the way i make now without xgum. but…i guess i used to love the pink and white circus animal cookies with the sprinkles.

Oh my goodness there is something so sweet about taking chocolate chip cookies so seriously, it made me laugh a little at work (in a place that is too quiet to laugh out loud). I have battles with finding cookies that aren't too sweet, so for me a recipe for zuchini lemon cookies is my favorite one on hand (though, if we are going to split hairs, they are a little closer to tiny cakes). Thanks for all the lovely photographs!

Alecia August 11, 2010 um 4:52 pm

Chocolate chip. Plain and simple, they always remind me of my grandma.

Jenn Sutherland August 11, 2010 um 5:02 pm

I LOVE Shauna's GF chocolate chip cookies – I've made them several times from the BlogAid cookbook, but still – my true favorite cookie is the humble molasses cookie – it's the sweet/salty balance that I simple adore.

I love no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies. The recipe comes from the back of my Gradmas cookbook and is hand writen by my great greandma. I've never found another like it.

Ruth August 11, 2010 um 5:17 pm

A favorite cookie, that is so hard. I have three:

1 – The Nestle chocolate chip cookie recipe, adapted with half milk, half bittersweet chocolate. I roll the dough in chopped nuts (pecans/walnuts)before baking, so they get a lovely toasted flavor.

2 – Almond cookies sandwiched with raspberry jam and dusted with confectioner's sugar (a Valentine's day treat).

3 – Oatmeal Cherry Chocolate Chunk Cookies with Chopped Pecans

Caroline August 11, 2010 um 5:17 pm

Gingerbread cookies!

I have a serious addiction to chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips in them. A childhood favorite, I could eat a whole batch. Instead, I give them away as fast as possible to get them out of my sight and mouth.

Mariann August 11, 2010 um 5:19 pm

I'll have to try these soon! My all time favorite cookies are peanut butter though.

Crystal August 11, 2010 um 5:21 pm

I like your adjustments. I also swap out the amaranth in Shauna's recipe, and prefer corn starch to tapioca starch. Looking forward to trying it!

My favorite cookies are jam thumbprint cookies, and I haven't yet found the go-to gluten-free recipe for them. I like the texture the jam gets when it's baked. πŸ™‚

I have a chocolate chip cookie recipe I've been tweaking for a while. I think I've finally got it perfect. There's nothing better than chocolate chip.

Eagles17 August 11, 2010 um 5:39 pm

Thank you for the gluten free addition – my doctor recently prescribed that I cut gluten from my diet so this is a wonderful start. Oh goodness, I don't know if I can choose just one favorite… After flip-flopping between everything from oatmeal raisin to double chocolate, I'm split between snickerdoodle an white chocolate macadamia. They're so delicious, yet both utterly sinful. I suppose I'll go with the white chocolate macadamia because there's nothing like that satisfying crunch and end of sweetness to get me going. Speaking of which, I ought to go make some now…

Joana Cardoso August 11, 2010 um 5:39 pm

I love many, many types, but vegan chocolate chip cookies are heaven!!

Mands August 11, 2010 um 6:12 pm

My very favorite cookies are what I like to call Cowboy cookies. Although my mother corrected me the other day and said they were more of a ranger cookie. They are Chocolate Chip cookies with amlonds, pecans, coconut and cornflakes. Delicious! I am not sure what makes them Cowboy-like or Ranger-like but I think Cowboy sounds more rough and tough then Ranger. πŸ™‚

Love the shirt! Do macarons count as a cookie? 'Cuz, if so, my favorite'd be pistachio macarons. If they don't really count as a cookie, I'm gonna stick with a chewy molasses cookie.

Anne August 11, 2010 um 6:30 pm

I do love chocolate chip cookies. In Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook, she has a great recipe for white chocolate butterscotch cookies which are even better if you add toffee bits to them! Also, I have a great recipe for macadamia nut and crystallized ginger cookies which are divine! They have the texture of these French cookies with dried currants in them… Maybe I simply love all cookies! I don't think I can pick a favorite πŸ™‚

I always find that refrigerating the dough makes the cookies taste a million times better.

now i bake my own, having found better cookie recipes than my mom's and my husband will eat an entire batch before they're cold. πŸ™‚

Sylvie August 11, 2010 um 8:12 pm

Who can resist a gooey chocolate chip cookie? That has to be the best classic American cookie. But the French side of me craves the buttery richness of a palet breton!

Mrs. G August 11, 2010 um 8:19 pm

Cute tee! I love chocolate chip pecan cookies.

Has to be my mum's sugar cookies at Christmas. My family has great fun debating the merits of cooking them till they're crisp and the sugar caramelizes versus soft (the way my dad likes them).

Jemia August 11, 2010 um 8:37 pm

I love cookies in general… but oatmeal chocolate chip is a lifelong love. It's the chewiness that the oats give that makes it the best!

Laura August 11, 2010 um 8:39 pm

my worlds are colliding … I found you through Shauna (the puff pastry post!), I live in Threadless' home town (and even know a few of their employees) … how'd you all find each other?

That being said, I have to say Shauna's recipe (the one you adapted) is my newest favorite. And a new favorite among my friends who all request it for special events … not konwing/caring/understanding what gluten-free means. They just love the cookies … btw, for a real treat, try smoked sea salt. Just sayin'

I am a huge fan of peanut butter kiss cookies, shortbread and my grandmom's oatmeal raisin. Her secret ingredient? Nutmeg!

sprite August 11, 2010 um 10:05 pm

If I'm making them, my favorite is the classic Tollhouse chocolate chip cookie (sans nuts).

If I'm buying them from a local shop, the winners are the salty oat cookie and chocolate salty oat cookie sold at my local tea house.

I will say, though, if I'd grown up with macarons, I could see them being my favorite.

Rachael August 11, 2010 um 10:07 pm

My favorite cookies are the 36-hour chocolate chip cookies but I don't make them gluten-free.

Liz August 11, 2010 um 10:12 pm

i can't (never!) resist Indonesian traditional cookies. I do love Chocolate chip cookies, but my fav always my childhood cookie indulgent. my all time fav was called Nastar.look a truffle like, some round shape and some oval shape. Its a slightly sweet dough with cooked grated fresh Pineapple-sugar-cinnamon filling (cooked until no water in it,so it can be shaped). This cookie will so much popular when festive days in Indonesia (Ied Mubarak,Christmast,Chinese New Year) its a must cookie to have for every family in Indonesia during the festive days..The exotic and fresh of pineapple filling blend perfectly with slightly nice crumbly cookie dough.. Nice comfort cookie.
I will still love to eat them after 5's !
Awesome picts as usual,Helen.

Heather August 11, 2010 um 10:20 pm

Asking me to name my favorite cookie is liking asking a mother to pick a favorite child.

I first learned how to make Snickerdoodles. Oatmeal cookies are highly prized to me. And Gingersnaps. And Chocolate Mexican cookies filled with dulce de leche. Meringues are also delicious. And ATK's Triple Chocolate Cookies.

I think I have a problem.

Donna August 11, 2010 um 10:24 pm

Oatmeal raisin. No, wait–peanut butter with chunky peanuts. No, wait, ginger snaps (I have THE BEST recipe). No, wait–almond macaroons. Got milk?

Lauren A August 11, 2010 um 10:38 pm

Chewy lemon sugar cookies are my favorite cookie.

Hungry Sofia August 11, 2010 um 10:47 pm

Have to say that my favorite cookie is the oreo. Though I've made homemade versions that came out well and I was glad to know what was in them, I think it's funny that no variation really improves on the original – double stuff, chocolate, vanilla – doesn't matter. It cannot be improved upon.

I have to admit to reading those irratating and sometimes amusing 'junk' emails passed on from friends and family, and found THE most delicious chocolate chip/flake recipe. It makes an ENORMOUS amount (something in the region of 120 cookies), but they never ever have lasted more than a week in our home! Sometimes it pays to read between the 'important' emails πŸ™‚

"C is for Cookie!" I can eat just about any kind of cookie, but I just can't choose one favorite between my Mom's chocolate chip cookies and my Sister-in-law's peanut butter-hershey kiss cookies. Those two are the all time best! A close third though are the candy cane cookies we twist together for the winter holidays. And right behind that I'd have to say that my Sister-in-law makes a darn fine homemade chex mix and no, that's not a cookie, but the saltiness of the chex mix really complements the sweetness of the cookies! Yum!

VelvetRabbit August 12, 2010 um 3:03 am

Gingersnaps from David Lebovitz's recipe.

Hanni August 12, 2010 um 5:36 am

where do you find the ingredients for this recipe?!

My favourite cookie is called Kueh Makmur aka Fouram Cookies. It's a celebrative cookie in South East Asia commonly served during Chinese New Year and Deepavali (Festival of Lights). I love the way it crumbles and, literally, melts in your mouth. Commercially made ones comes with crushed peanuts fillings. I tried to make it but it's so hard to shape by itself, least, the fillings. I had no choice but to mix everything together. I gave it away to families and friends in America as Christmas cookies and they love it!

I am thrilled to see your gluten free recipes. I would love to make something similar as a gift for a friend. She has been recently diagnosed with severe allergies to soya, dairy and eggs. Can you recommend any good alternatives for butter and eggs in this dish?

Cookin' Canuck August 12, 2010 um 1:11 pm

What a fun t-shirt! I can see why the bank teller giggled. For my favorite cookies, it is a toss-up between my mum's chocolate chip cookies and my dad's white chocolate & espresso cookies…or his triple-ginger ones. Darn it, don't make me choose!

NikiTheo August 12, 2010 um 1:13 pm

Oreo cookies!!! And crushed oreo cookies in a chocolate chip cookie!

Becki Sue August 12, 2010 um 1:18 pm

My favorite cookies are whatever I'm pulling right out of the oven. I recently made a batch of super spicy gingersnaps. They are my favorite until I bake my next batch of cookies!!

Tyler & Erin Johnson August 12, 2010 um 1:20 pm

Chocolate-Caramel Thumbprint cookies…they are the cookie I measure all others against.

Jennifer August 12, 2010 um 1:28 pm

My all time favorite, next to chocolate chip, is chocolate ginger cookies. They are a martha stewart recipe and they are gone before I even clean the dishes I made making them!

Blissful Deviations August 12, 2010 um 1:29 pm

looks yummy! I love threadless and your blog. great combo.

Anonymous August 12, 2010 um 1:37 pm

I love making cookies…my favorite is peanut butter chocolate chip.
SO yummy!!!

Kate August 12, 2010 um 1:40 pm

The best I've had so far:
I make chocolate chip cookies out of homemade peanut butter, coconut flour, a bit of oil (or melted butter), a bit of honey, and chocolate chips. You could add anything into the mixture – mashed bananas, oats, dried fruits, nuts, jam toppings… just adjust the amount of oil or butter until you get the desired consistency :).

Unknown August 12, 2010 um 1:45 pm

My current favorite chocolate cookie recipe includes a box of instant pudding. It makes the outside of the cookie crunchy but the inside stays soft.

Anonymous August 12, 2010 um 1:48 pm

Interesting article about why cookies are better after 36hrs . . . definetly gonna have to try with my next batch!!

Kelli August 12, 2010 um 1:48 pm

I have 3 cookie monsters at my house…..ok, 4, including ME! Can't wait to try this recipe.

patty August 12, 2010 um 1:51 pm

I love anything with nuts and huge chunks of chocolate! And I always prefer my cookies chewy. Always. πŸ™‚

Emily August 12, 2010 um 1:55 pm

My dad never bakes, except once in a while [every few years, not every few weeks!] when he sets his mind on oatmeal molasses cookies. It's hilarious to watch him make them, but they are the best cookie I've ever had!

G. Prinsen August 12, 2010 um 1:57 pm

MMMMMM. No-bake spoon cookies! What's not to love about chocolate and peanut butter?

Unknown August 12, 2010 um 2:06 pm

Beautiful post, as ever and always. I'm a fan of the good ol' Toll House recipe for chocolate chip cookies, though I've been itching to try Kim Boyce's version in Good to the Grain ever since I got that marvelous book for Mother's Day… and for a delicious variation on the chocolate chip cookie, I love Alice Medrich's nibby pecan cookies in Bittersweet… there's a log of that dough in my freezer at almost all times…

Unknown August 12, 2010 um 2:07 pm

My favorite are what I call Traverse City cookies, full of dried cherries, semi-sweet chocolate chips, toasted walnuts, and oatmeal. I was inspired by a cookie sold at our local Farmer's Market and adapted it to be Gluten-free. They're every bit as good and chewy as the original!

ela:::ela:::ela August 12, 2010 um 2:08 pm

Iced Ginger Cookies are my fave.

Sunshinemom August 12, 2010 um 2:37 pm

I love the first picture and the cake stand. It must have been witness to some really wonderful cakes! And I like my cookies, and chocolatey but with a hint of nuts, close to a brownie! Recently I discovered that gluten free cookies are way better than ones made with APF.

Anonymous August 12, 2010 um 3:05 pm

I just LOVE The Ultimate Soft and Chewy Chocolate Chunk Cookies from Regan Daley's book In the Sweet Kitchen. I make a batch of cookie dough and freeze it for when the craving strikes.

Meg August 12, 2010 um 3:06 pm

I LOVE chocolate chip cookies, but I'm picky about them. I don't want to chew through chunks of chocolate. I much more prefer a standard sugar cookie or a chocolate cookie recipe with the chocolate grated into the batter or even better – without chips (GASP!)

Reluctant Penguin August 12, 2010 um 3:14 pm

My favorite cookie is coffee chocolate chip. I am still trying to find the perfect recipe.

I never visited the Threadless site before, but because of your recommendation I was forced to buy 3 tees πŸ™‚

Sylvie Greeniaus August 12, 2010 um 3:24 pm

The choc chip cookie is so in that malls pipe in the smell to give shoppers that warm fuzzy feeling inside. Shopper's stay longer, buy more and eat more. When is come to the cold war, The Russians had nothing on the American's!
The 36 hour rule applies to all cookie dough!

Thanks for the great post!

Tessa August 12, 2010 um 3:42 pm

Beautiful post! My favorite cookie is probably chocolate chunk or peanut butter chocolate chip.

LAC August 12, 2010 um 3:51 pm

The NY Times Chocolate Chip Cookie is my fav!

Stacy R. August 12, 2010 um 3:59 pm

My favorite cookie is definitely the Black & White, but more for nostalgia reasons, as the cookie itself tends to be a little dry-tasting. πŸ™‚

Jenna Z August 12, 2010 um 4:01 pm

Iced sugar cookies! So tasty and they remind me of holidays when we would decorate them together. Christmas, valentine's day and Halloween!

Unknown August 12, 2010 um 4:09 pm

Either my mother's famous Chocolate Crinkle cookies (could eat a plate of those!) or Snickerdoodles, since I love cinnamon in just about anything.

Unknown August 12, 2010 um 4:53 pm

My favorite cookies are the oatmeal raisin cookies from Simply Recipes. They're good as is, but I've adapted them in all kinds of ways and always end up with this delicious, hearty and crunchy cookie. I truely love them.

Unknown August 12, 2010 um 4:54 pm

Hands down, my all time favorites are snickerdoodles. The tang that the cream of tartar provides, combined with the sweetness of the cinnamon-sugar coating? Perfection. My second favorite are peanut butter chocolate chip, and it's these that I tend to make most often (fewer steps, I guess). I might have to make cookies tonight…

Linda August 12, 2010 um 5:00 pm

A bakery in my neighborhood has these amazing flat, brittle almond cookies. I'm not sure what they're called but they're delicate, crispy, chewy afterwards and so delicious. It's too bad they're not a complete source of nutrition because if I were reborn as a pet, I'd want those cookies for kibble. Every. Day.

Jessica Morgan August 12, 2010 um 5:15 pm

No-bake/range-top cookies. It's hard to go wrong with them. Especially with a dollop of peanut butter on top!

Rachel August 12, 2010 um 5:15 pm

Believe me, they are the best cookies in the world!

Besse August 12, 2010 um 5:59 pm

My favorite cookie is the oatmeal chocolate peanut butter no bake cookie. It is so easy to make and you don't have to get the oven hot in the summer.

Pure Indulgence August 12, 2010 um 6:15 pm

Chocolate cookies are definitely a bonding experience. Some of my first memories of the kitchen are baking cookies with my parents and then the glorious day when I turned 8 and made them all by myself for a bunch of guests!
I love the idea of having gluten free cookies…a lot of my friends have a gluten intolerance and they should be able to join in the bonding too!
I'm currently working on an eggless, sugarless version for a good friend…eep!

Maggita August 12, 2010 um 7:14 pm

My mom's homemade biscochitos. It's a shortbread-like cookie with pinon nuts and anise. It's gross, but when she uses lard they're divine!

Chocolate covered almond inside a dark chocolate chip cookie. I pretty much like to mix and match however I want. I bake for my bread (haha, baker's pun) so I'm always trying to think of something new.. Pistachios are great too.

Jamie August 12, 2010 um 8:21 pm

Let me guess: the chill time is what helps these cookies keep their form and LOOK SO TASTY once they're baked. My favorite cookie is anything with a shape and texture like these. Your photos are killing me!

These will be nice for my zumba teacher who needs to eat gluten free. My favorite cookie is one I can't find anywhere. It was made by the Amish in Pennsylvania. It was a molasses, chewy cookie. It was big and I ate way too many of them. I looked forward to market day because of those cookies.

Maria Vladimiru August 13, 2010 um 9:25 am

Sorry if that comment appears for the second time, but it was a total disaster yesterday.

Helen, your attitude towards cookies make me think that we Europeans do not love them as much as the Americans do. However, I share my entire love for Lavender Hearts, also known as The Heart of Provence πŸ™‚ Maybe they do not fit completely the idea of cookie, but there is no better treat if you are in love with summer, south and those lavender fields that touch the horizon. So simple and so rich because of the chopped flowers- for sure you know these πŸ™‚

Best wishes

Ashleigh August 13, 2010 um 10:33 am

It's a toss up between my mom's sugar-free oatmeal raisin cookies (she used apple juice and apple sauce) and oatmeal almond chocolate chip cookies (without eggs — since I'm allergic to them).

Speaking of egg allergies — have you modified any of these recipes to omit the eggs? I'd love to see some eggless pastries. πŸ™‚

My favorite cookies are oatmeal. I love the sweet chewy goodness.

mkd August 14, 2010 um 5:20 am

While I have enjoyed bittersweet chocolate cookies with candied orange peel, and spent many hours trying to perfect the texture of a lemon cornmeal concoction, at the end of the day my heart belongs to … the chocolate chip cookie. So American, so ordinary, and so utterly right!

Chutzpah August 14, 2010 um 6:17 am

Thanks! I've been looking for a good gluten-free recipe.

Lasha August 14, 2010 um 10:26 am

Great Cookies!
My favourites are ones my mum used to do using fresh milk cream. It got a bit sour after a couple of days on the fridge and that is what gave them their distintc flavour. Ohhh, my mouth is watering already just remembering.
A hug from Mallorca.

Crumbs N Crust August 14, 2010 um 1:55 pm

My all time favourite cookie would be triple chocolate chip cookies with Macademia nuts = ) Decadent !

Sarah August 14, 2010 um 2:22 pm

Liisi August 14, 2010 um 2:40 pm

My favourites are oatmeal raisin cookies.

Susan August 14, 2010 um 2:51 pm

Linzer Cookies, in the shape of hearts of course. They are pretty, and festive for Valentines or Christmas.

Cassidy August 14, 2010 um 2:59 pm

That's a hard one, but either peanut butter chocolate chip or double chocolate. They're both delectable!

Anonymous August 14, 2010 um 3:16 pm

I always love a buttery sweet oatmeal raisin cookie, which can seem both homey and decadent at the same time. But I am also partial to homemade oreos!

Unknown August 14, 2010 um 4:11 pm

I love baking, but for some reason I don't like baking cookies. But what cookie I love to eat are the Girl Scout Lemonades. I love lemon!!!

FingerPrint August 14, 2010 um 5:21 pm

I'm undecided between chocolate chip and oatmeal and raisin cookies!

Tarts and Tattoos August 14, 2010 um 5:43 pm

LisaB August 14, 2010 um 6:01 pm

Thank you for hosting this giveaway.

I'd never heard of the 36-hour waiting period before. I will definitely have to try this.

My favorite cookie is whatever is warm out of the oven. No cookie is a bad cookie when it's warm!

Kelly-Jane August 14, 2010 um 7:06 pm

I thought I'd left a comment on this one, blogger must be playing me up.

Anyhow, lovely cookies and please enter me for your giveaway!

My favorite cookie of all time was a puffed wheat cookie from an old Joy of Cooking cookbook.
But being gluten free means that this recipe must be adapted. I'm thinking millet puffs might bring back my joy.
I love the idea of giggles in my life, I'd love to alternate between this shirt and my Girl from Echinacea one.

Lucky's Luna August 14, 2010 um 10:10 pm

Fahrenheit 350Β° August 15, 2010 um 1:18 am

I came in search of hints on how to get my macarons to NOT stick to the pan, and found this lovely contest! I love the nestle chocolate chip cookie recipe, but with browned butter on the brain I'm thinking perhaps that might be a delicious reason to bake up a batch – gluten free no, but I don't need a reason to try 2 recipes at all!

Emily August 15, 2010 um 2:31 am

Peanut butter and chocolate chip.

Arielle Rassel August 15, 2010 um 2:54 am

I think my favorite cookie would be oatmeal lace gluten free cookies. I can have gluten but a classmate of my sons cannot, there is no difference in flavor between the gluten free and regular version, he was so happy to be able to share in the treats my son brought in for his birthday.

ChowBellas August 16, 2010 um 2:07 am

Cant wait to try these….

LittleWit August 16, 2010 um 3:47 am

Joyce M August 17, 2010 um 1:22 am

Macarons and chocolate oatmeal cookies πŸ˜‰

Laura August 17, 2010 um 5:02 am

My boyfriend is a cookie monster, too. He always asks me to make smaller batches so that he won't devour them all straight out of the oven. I can't even begin to count the number of times I've made cookies for him during college; it was the perfect pick-me-up after or during a long night of studying. His favorite is white chocolate-chip macadamia nut, but I'm more of a snickerdoodle/peanut butter kinda girl. πŸ™‚ I'm hoping to try out salted caramel soon!

Jenni August 17, 2010 um 3:25 pm

Can't go wrong with the classic chocolate chip cookie.

Alanna August 20, 2010 um 2:51 am

I make chocolate chips for my husband at least once a week. They are so comforting, especially with a glass of cold milk!

I know this post is older and you've done a giveaway and I'm late to the party but you made me smile with your comments about our American staple of chocolate chip cookies!

Several years ago, Denver hosted World Youth Day, when Catholic teenagers from the world over converge on one city for fellowship and on the last day a Mass given by the Pope. Yes, him, the real Pope.

A friend mentioned that she was hosting some kids from another country and because she knew I had some space, I offered to as well. I had two girls of jr high and high school age so we agreed to take four teenage girls from Paris for two weeks.

We (and I think they) had the time of our lives; we were so lucky to have the girls we got. Three things remain vividly in my memory of that visit.

1. As soon as they all piled in the car, despite two of them not really speaking any English, they were all singing along to every pop song on the radio.
2. The MOST important thing they had to accomplish during their trip was to purchase some Levis (they pronounced Levas) and Nike (no long 'e' there either) products.
3. After baking them a batch of chocolate cookies to pack in what we came to call 'French lunches' I think they were willing to eliminate the need for Nikes if I would procure for each of them a big bag of chocolate chips. Thankful for Costco, that was an easy task and I heard more about those chips both here and after they returned home than anything.

So your story brought back some delightful memories of that fun time…when we grew so fond of 4 girls from Paris and we hope they will always remember as fondly the family from Denver!
