Time To Make The Doughnuts!

What? A doughnut event? I am smiling thinking that while you were sleeping and dreaming away, Peabody and I were rubbing our hands together and scheming about an all doughnut fry fest. Oh yeah! Bring it on!! We love anything with butter, flour, eggs and sugar but more so when deep fried and maybe drenched in caramel or toffee sauce! We know you have been craving some doughnut goodness and looking at all the countries around us, we can tell that there are lots of local specialties involving fried dough. We also realize that some of you are paying attention to their waistline this time of year, so we are ok with baked doughnuts, don’t make it a habit though, that will break our hearts! You don’t have to own a deep fryer to participate either, any form of pan frying can do (don’t go justify to your better half your latest appliance purchase and blaming it on us!!).

Our only “requirements” are that your entry be a sweet one (plain, or fruit filled or other), and one you make especially for the event….because…well, that’s just us!

To participate, make and post some doughnuts between now and February 12th send us your entry at mytarteletteATgmailDOTcom or luvbriereATgmailDOTcom with the following information:
* Name
* Blog name
* Blog URL
* Post title or Name of dish
* Post URL
* Picture

Round up on both our blogs on the 15th!

You can also find notification of this even on Is My Blog Burning, graciously maintained by Andrew.

Oh, how did you know? I haven’t had homemade doughnuts for *years* and was just looking at them in the King Arthur cookbook I got for Christmas! What an excellent excuse to make them. Oh honey, I have to . . . for the blog! 😉

I have never made doughnuts before, so this event is really tempting. I will try to make a batch if my mum allows me to fry them in her new kitchen! 🙂

Susan @ SGCC January 17, 2008 um 4:37 pm

Sounds like this will be a great event! Do you consider beignets to be doughnuts too? Just keeping my options open. 😉

Madam Chow January 17, 2008 um 7:18 pm

Woo-hoo! I have a gallon of canola oil that I bought a few months ago with the intent of making donuts, and then I got side tracked. Thank you for giving me the incentive to use it! I’m so excited!

SteamyKitchen January 18, 2008 um 7:26 am

I made chocolate filled beignets.
But too hungry and didn’t take pics.

(sigh) oh dear, must make them again!

Look at all I do in the name of blogging.

Hi Helene!
I’ve commented on your blog before (your blog is my favourite pastry blog!) I have a doughnut related question. I just started (another) job making desserts once a week at a restaurant (this one is in addition to my full time job). Anyway, since I’m only in there once a week, I need to stock up the pastry section. Do you by any chance have a good doughnut recipe that freezes well??

Thanks in advance,

Helene January 23, 2008 um 12:31 am

Rachel: congratulations on the pastry job! Could you email me at marinette1ATcomcastDOTnet so I can forward the recipes I have for you? Thanks!

Marisa January 24, 2008 um 3:12 am

i love your blog!! i’m one of the new non-blogging members of the daring bakers. my husband peeked when i was looking at this so i HAD to make him doughnuts! (he’s a police officer, i’m sure he has enough at work) but i must say, they were fabulous! I made baked doughnuts and then made him bring them to work with him. All of the other officers told me they expect doughnuts regularly now LOL. So thanks for another push to make something i’ve never made before =)

Anonymous January 31, 2008 um 4:42 am

Oh I am so IN. Great idea!

Emma Nowell February 3, 2008 um 3:53 am

I’m in! What a good excuse :). When you said to submit two different doughnuts, was that from two different recipes or just two versions from the same batch?

Helene February 3, 2008 um 6:33 am

Emma: I re-read the post and I don’t see where it says to enter 2 dounghut recipe: "Our only “requirements” are that your entry be a sweet one (plain, or fruit filled or other), and one you make especially for the event…"

RecipeGirl February 3, 2008 um 9:01 pm

Sounds like fun! Something I’ve never made… I’m sure my 6 year old will appreciate this event!

LyB February 6, 2008 um 1:34 pm

I keep coming back to this post and re-reading it, trying to convince myself I’ve never made doughnuts so I can’t enter, right? You are so making me want to make doughnuts! 🙂

Aparna Balasubramanian February 8, 2008 um 5:53 am

You brought back doughnut memories and convinced me to make some. I have sent some over by e-mail!

Anonymous February 12, 2008 um 11:02 pm
